How to convert Pro Tools to REAPER

Pro Tools saves sessions as .ptx files; REAPER uses .rpp files. Neither opens the other's format. Doseedo converts the session itself: upload the .ptx, download a native .rpp with the session rebuilt.

Why there's no built-in way

Avid and Cockos have no shared project format. REAPER cannot open a .ptx, and Pro Tools has no REAPER export. AAF gets audio clips across with fades and levels, but it carries no MIDI, no instruments and no plugin chains. The usual fallback — render stems and rebuild — flattens the project. A native conversion keeps it editable.

How the conversion works

Doseedo reads the Pro Tools session natively — the .ptx itself, no export step in Pro Tools — and rebuilds it as a .rpp project with every clip at its arrangement position. Pro Tools keeps audio outside the session file, in the session's Audio Files folder — so zip the whole session folder (the .ptx with its Audio Files/) and upload the zip. A bare .ptx converts too, but it carries structure and MIDI only, no audio. Legacy .ptf and .pts sessions convert the same way.

What carries over — and what doesn't

Pro Tools ↔ REAPER carries the arrangement, honestly scoped. What arrives editable: tempo and time signature, the arrangement (every clip at its real position), MIDI notes with velocities, audio clips placed where they were with the media traveling alongside, markers, and per-track volume, pan and mute.

What doesn't carry yet: plugin chains and instrument state (tracks arrive named and placed, devices empty), automation, and sends — the same boundary limits as the other FL Studio and REAPER pairs. If your session leans on those, expect to rebuild them — the arrangement, notes and audio will be waiting.

Do I need Pro Tools or REAPER installed?

Not to convert. The conversion runs on the session file itself. You need REAPER to open the result.

Can you convert a Pro Tools session to REAPER?

Yes. Upload a .ptx (or the zipped session folder with its Audio Files/) to Doseedo and download a native REAPER .rpp project. The arrangement, MIDI notes, audio clips, tempo, markers and track levels arrive editable. Plugin state and automation don't carry between Pro Tools and REAPER yet.

Does Pro Tools export to REAPER?

No. Pro Tools has no REAPER export, and REAPER can't open .ptx files. AAF moves audio clips only — no MIDI, no plugins. The real routes are rendering stems (which flattens the project) or a native converter that rebuilds the session format — that's what Doseedo does.

Do plugins carry over from Pro Tools to REAPER?
